MJ’s hair to be turned into diamonds

Since Michael Jackson’s sudden death on June 25, the rumor mill over details of his bizarre personal life has ground away nearly non-stop, and on Friday, one company said it was turning his hair into diamonds. That one is true.

The claims this week included a report in Rolling Stone magazine that a prosthetic nose he wore apparently went missing when he was taken to the morgue, and a British tabloid trumpeted a headline that he fathered a secret love-child.

In one by-product of the “Thriller” singer’s death, a Chicago company said on Friday it had obtained some of the hair Jackson burned while filming a 1984 Pepsi commercial and planned to create a limited edition of diamonds from it.

“Absolutely this is for real,” said Dean Vanden-Biesen, founder of LifeGem, which has a patent on a process that extracts carbon from hair, turns it into crystals and then into high-quality laboratory diamonds.

VandenBiesen told Reuters he thought the company could make about 10 diamonds. No sale price has been set but VandenBiesen said LifeGem created three diamonds from locks of Beethoven’s hair in 2007, and sold one of them for around $200,000.

Separately, the August 6 issue of Rolling Stone magazine reported that not only was the left arm of Jackson’s dead body “scored with needle marks” - claims that have arisen before - but he wore an artificial nose that was missing when he was taken to the Los Angeles county morgue.

“The prosthesis that he normally attached to his damaged nose was missing, revealing bits of cartilage surrounding a small dark hole,” the magazine said in an unsourced report.

Earthquake brings New Zealand and Australia closer together

Scientists say a massive earthquake has brought New Zealand a foot closer to Australia.

The 7.8 magnitude quake in the Tasman Sea expanded New Zealand's South Island westwards by about 30cm (12in), reports the BBC.

But with more than 1,400 miles separating the countries, nobody is likely to notice the difference. Nor, as the local media observed, is it likely to bring cheaper air fares.

Seismologist Ken Gledhill, of GNS Science, said that while the west coast had moved 30cm towards Australia, the east coast had moved only one centimeter westwards.

"Basically, New Zealand just got a little bit bigger is another way to think about it," he said.

Although it was New Zealand's biggest earthquake in 78 years, it caused only slight damage to buildings and property when it struck in the remote Fiordland region west of Invercargill.

The quake generated a small tsunami, with a 3ft wave recorded on the west coast, and people living there were advised to move to higher ground.

"For a very large earthquake, although it was very widely felt, there were very few areas that were severely shaken," Dr Gledhill added.

Racism killed our girl: grandparents

The girl, from Doomadgee, had been ill for days and was turned away from the Doomadgee Hospital several times in the past week before being admitted . She died on Thursday before her family could get her transferred to the larger Mount Isa Hospital.

Her grandfather Athol Walden has told the ABC's The World Today that doctors and nurses had been reluctant to admit patients because of swine flu concerns and had been treating them outside.

"If my little granddaughter was a white child, she would have been flown out the first day she went to the hospital." Her grandmother Katrina Walden agreed.

"I think she was neglected because she was a little black girl," she said.

A Queensland Health spokeswoman said a team of senior clinicians would provide support and counselling to the family and meet with community leaders today

Girl without mouth born in Ukraine

A girl born without a mouth has become a patient at a local hospital in the town of Korosten, Ukraine. The baby with severe congenital abnormality was found on the doorstep of the hospital. Police managed to find the girl’s mother quickly, but the latter wrote an official statement rejecting the baby due to serious financial difficulties.

Doctors diagnosed the little girl with congenital defects in the development of the facial skull, hypoplasia of lower and upper jaws. In other words, the baby’s jaws grew together because of their underdevelopment.

Doctors say that it is quite possible to correct the awful mistake of nature, although it will take much time, effort and money. Surgeons are planning a number of plastic operations, which promise to be extremely complicated and expensive because they are going to be performed on a child.

For the time being, the doctors managed to “open” the girl’s mouth as they made a canal between the upper and the lower jaws of the little baby. Now it is possible to feed the baby with liquid food through a feeding tube.

Harry Potter chair on eBay

The chair upon which an impoverished JK Rowling sat to write the first two books in the Harry Potter series is up for grabs on eBay.

Rowling wrote The Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets on the chair in her Scottish council flat when she was a single mother, surviving on benefits and struggling with depression.

It has been personalised by the author herself and features several painted slogans including: "I wrote Harry Potter while sitting on this chair."

She originally donated it to a charity auction, called Chair-ish a Child, which was held in aid of the NSPCC, in 2002 when it was sold for £15,000.

The chair is now being being auctioned on eBay with 20% of the proceeds going to the Books Abroad charity which sends free school books to impoverished countries.

Matthew Ford, the art dealer organizing the sale, said: "It's a chair you'd pay a tenner for in a junk shop but, historically, it's the most important chair in Muggledom, and probably one of the most exceptional and rare pieces of Harry Potter memorabilia ever likely to be offered for sale.

"To a Harry Potter fan this is as good as it gets. It is part of the story, part of JK Rowling's story. Whoever wins it is buying a piece of literary history."

Proving its authenticity, the chair comes complete with a special Owl Mail signed by Rowling and addressed to the 'new owner of my chair'.

The letter explains that she was given four mismatched dining room chairs in 1995 and, because it was the most comfortable, it was this one that ended up at her desk in front of her typewriter.

The author finishes off the letter with the comment: "My nostalgic side is sad to see you go but my back isn't."

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II is a fifth-generation, single-seat, single-engine, stealth-capable military strike fighter, a multirole aircraft that can perform close air support, tactical bombing, and air defense missions. The F-35's main engine is the Pratt & Whitney F135.The F-35 includes a GAU-22/A four-barrel 25 mm cannon.up to two air-to-air missiles and two air-to-ground weapons

Woman taught her dog to read

New York animal trainer Lyssa Rosenberg has taught her terrier to obey simple written commands.

Willow plays dead when she sees the word 'bang', stretches a paw in the air when she sees 'wave' and gets up on her back feet to beg when she sees the words 'sit up'.

"She's an unbelievably quick learner," said Ms Rosenberg, who has trained other dogs to appear in TV adverts and pose on photo shoots.

"She can do 250 different things and I used to joke that I would teach her how to pour me a martini. Then for a bet I told a friend I would teach her to read. He promised me a free trip to Mexico if I could do it.

"It took her just six weeks to recognise words and respond to them. And it isn't just my handwriting she understands. My friend printed the words Willow learned off the computer and she reacted to them.

"Well I won the bet and Willow came with me to Mexico."

Willow has her own pet passport and regularly flies transatlantic to visit Ms Rosenberg's husband Gareth Howells, in Guildford, Surrey.

Willow was also the second witness at the couple's wedding at New York City Hall in March - signing the marriage certificate with an inky paw print.

Ms Rosenberg even takes the 10lb English terrier mix on business trips because Willow is more than happy to share her carrying case with other animals.

"I once had to fly from California back to New York with a rabbit and two guinea pigs. Going through airport security was hilarious because first I pulled out the rabbit from the bag, followed by the guinea pigs and then the dog."

School scaring pupils with alien stunt

A Sussex primary school has been accused of terrifying pupils after pretending a teacher had been abducted by aliens.

The stunt by Southway Junior School in Burgess Hill was intended to promote creative writing skills, reports the Daily Mail.

Head Diana Goss told pupils an alien craft had crashed near the school and pupils were encouraged to 'follow a trail of debris' before stumbling across the UFO.

Sussex Police set up a crime scene around the crashed craft and supplied a police constable and a community support officer for two hours to help the children produce witness statements.

Pupils were told that Joy Law, the school's learning support teacher, who is responsible for special needs pupils, had been abducted.

Parents condemned the school for 'terrifying' their children and claimed teachers had gone over the top in trying to 'fire their imagination'.

Linda Molds, whose son Harry, nine, is autistic, said: "Harry will take everything you say literally, so when he was told aliens had taken Mrs Law away and the police were investigating - and then he actually saw the police - he believed every word."

Lisa Maynard, 34, whose nine-year-old daughter Ashleigh is also a pupil at the school, said: "It was just too realistic, too dramatic. All the police, the sirens, the cordon - it was just too much."

The school has released a statement saying: "The children were reassured throughout the morning that they were perfectly safe. They produced some excellent creative and factual writing."

Sussex Police said: "The police input was well-intentioned, and it was thought pupils would have a fun day."

Cerebrovascular disease

Number of people suffering from Cerebrovascular disease is increasing day by day .There is a wise saying that prevention is better than cure.To prevent cerebrovascular disease we need to something about it.

Cerebrovascular Disease are also called: Cerebrovascular Occlusion, Cerebral Vasculitis, Cerebral Arteriosclerosis, Occlusive Cerebrovascular Disease, Cerebral Vascular Disease, Cerebral Arteritis

Cerebrovascular disease (CVD) includes all disorders in which an area of the brain is transiently or permanently affected by ischemia or bleeding and one or more of the cerebral blood vessels are involved in the pathological process.CVD is the third leading cause of death after heart disease and malignancy and it is estimated that an average of 500,000 new strokes will occur each year in the USA. CVD is the most disabling of all neurologic diseases. Approximately 50% of survivors have a residual neurologic deficit and greater than 25% require chronic care.

This form of cerebrovascular disease is similar to coronary artery disease, which occurs in the blood vessels that supply the heart with oxygen-rich blood. It is also referred to as ischemic disease, or a disease that causes a lack of blood flow. Because it occurs in blood vessels outside the heart, this condition is also considered to be a type of peripheral artery disease.

Symptoms

A cerebrovascular accident is apparent if the victim displays the following symptoms: dizziness, nausea, vomiting, severe headaches, head pressure, numbness within the limbs, slurred speech, vision loss, loss of coordination and the ability to walk. Hemorrhagic strokes may require surgery to relieve the pressure within the brain. Another treatment, endovascular treatment, requires inserting a tube into the major artery.

TREATMENT OF CEREBROVASCULAR DISEASE

1. Stroke prevention through risk-factor reduction.

2. Prevention of initial or recurrent stroke by modifying the underlying pathologic process.

3. Reduction of secondary brain damage by maintaining adequate perfusion to marginally ischemic areas and decreasing edema.

Military Robot Could Eat Dead Bodies

A new robot is being designed which could fuel itself by consuming organic material, from grass to furniture or even dead bodies, Fox News reports. The 'bot, from Robotic Technology Inc., is called the Energetically Autonomous Tactical Robot (EATR). It can "find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass."

According to the company's web site, the purpose of EATR:

"To develop and demonstrate an autonomous robotic platform able to perform long-range, long-endurance missions without the need for manual or conventional re-fueling, which would otherwise preclude the ability of the robot to perform such missions. The system obtains its energy by foraging – engaging in biologically-inspired, organism-like, energy-harvesting behavior which is the equivalent of eating. It can find, ingest, and extract energy from biomass in the environment (and other organically-based energy sources), as well as use conventional and alternative fuels (such as gasoline, heavy fuel, kerosene, diesel, propane, coal, cooking oil, and solar) when suitable."

Iranian plane headed to Armenia crashes, all 168 dead

the Caspian Airlines plane crashed near the city of Qazvin, northwest of Tehran, shortly after takeoff from the capital.tate TV says 168 people were killed when a passenger plane crashed Wednesday in northwest Iran.

53 passengers and 15 crewmembers were on the Russian-made Caspian Airlines jet that had been headed from Tehran to the Armenian capital yerevan.

Footage from the scene on state-run Press TV shows a deep trench smashed into an agricultural field by the impact, littered with smoking wreckage. It showed a large chunk of a wing, but much of the wreckage appeared to be in small pieces. The Caspian Airlines jet was heading from Tehran to the Armenian capital Yerevan when it crashed near the village of Jannatabad outside the city of Qazvin, around 75 miles northwest of Tehran, state television said.

Caspian Airlines is a Russian-Iranian joint venture founded in 1993. Iran has frequent plane crashes, which it blames on U.S. sanctions on the country that prevent it from getting spare parts for aging airplanes. Caspian Airlines, however, uses Russian-made aircraft whose maintenance would be less impaired by American sanctions.

Basking Shark washed ashore on long island

An gigantic basking shark washed up on the shores of Long Island, New York today, causing quite a uproar at Gilgo State Park, which is just a few miles from the very popular Jones Beach. The shark measured 20 feet and weighed a ton, but despite its imposing appearance they are considered pretty harmless because they have tiny teeth and generally eat plankton. The shark was already dead by the time the state parks department was notified,After the investigation, the shark’s body will then be buried. Experts believe that the shark likely had some kind of illness.

The basking shark, Cetorhinus maximus, is the second largest living shark, after the whale shark. It is a cosmopolitan species — it is found in all the world's temperate oceans. It is a slow moving and generally harmless filter feeder. This shark is called the basking shark because it is most often observed when feeding at the surface and appears to be basking.

Obama’s First Pitch Tonight ,photo

The most powerful man of us President Barack Obama will be throwing out the first pitch at the 2009 MLB All Star Game.People are expecting a powerful pitch from the powerful president.

In 2005, his first year as a senator from Illinois, Obama threw out a first pitch at a White Sox playoff. The devout Sox fan admitted afterwards that he was feeling the pressure.

“Had I thrown a one-hop, I think, whatever aspirations I had, they would have shown that clip over and over again,” he said in an interview with the Springfield State Journal-Register that year.

“I was more nervous than I was before the Democratic National Convention” the year before, he said.

Back in 2001, not long after the horrors of 9/11, George Bush threw a perfect strike in Yankee Stadium before Gam3 of the World Series. This was, almost undoubtedly, one of the high points of his 8-year term in office. Now hopefully President Obama can do White Sox fans and America proud tonight by piping one similarly

China may attack India by 2012: Defence expert

Indiandefencereview.com has projected that China will attack India by 2012 to divert the attention of its own people from "unprecedented" internal dissent, growing unemployment and financial problems that are threatening the hold of Communists in that country. "China will launch an attack on India before 2012. There are multiple reasons for a desperate Beijing to teach India the final lesson, thereby ensuring Chinese supremacy in Asia in this century," Bharat Verma, Editor of the Indian Defence Review, has said.

He said the recession has "shut the Chinese exports shop", creating an "unprecedented internal social unrest" which in turn, was severely threatening the grip of the Communists over the society. Among other reasons for this assessment were rising unemployment, flight of capital worth billions of dollars, depletion of its foreign exchange reserves and growing internal dissent, Verma said in an editorial in the forthcoming issue of the premier defence journal.

I personally feel that No country can stand alone in a battle if the enemy comes with an alliance, in this case china will not only go with pak by also with sri lanka, it would be very tough for india to handle such and attack, it may all end up in nuclear holocaust in the end having Beijing and newdelhi going down to ashes. Thus, we need strategic patnerships, especially with other asian powers, south korea and Japan are must, the day-to-day improving US relation might also help in controlling pakistan to a certain scope. US may not come close or become friendly as we have still kept our long term ally Russians in tact. Hence we need to build strategic patnerships, countries like sri lanka is very advantageous, this is why India stand strong with SL in the extermination of the LTTE, which surprisingly had the support of the ethnic tamils of its own, although the reverse was expected, this means the people of India are clear in making their home land secure and stronger over the regional ethinic interests.

Giant Earthworm

This worm can reach 3 feet in length, is white in color and reportedly possesses a unique lily smell.Environmental groups are asking the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the worm as an endangered species. They live in the subsoil of blue, grey or red clay soils along stream banks and some south or west facing hills of their remaining habitat. These worms live in deep burrow systems and require water in their environment to respirate. These worms rarely leave their moist burrows. They have relatively long lifespans for invertebrates and can take 5 years to reach maturity. They breed in the warmer months and produce large egg cocoons which are laid in their burrows. When these worms hatch in 12 months they are already 20 cm long.

They can sometimes be heard in their habitat making gurgling sounds as they move underground.

Turkish Students Create Hydrogen-Powered 1300-MPG Car

In preparation for the inaugural Global Green Challenge across the Australian outback, a team of Turkish students have assembled a hydrogen-powered vehicle that has an efficiency of 568 kilometers per liter (roughly 1,335 mpg). In order to get across the outback, they hope to only use three liters of fuel in the vehicle, dubbed the SAHÄ°MO.

The SAHÄ°MO weighs 110 kg--a carbon fiber frame keeps the weight down--and the scary thing is that these Sakarya University students want to up the efficiency to 1,000 km/L.

But doing so won't be cheap, as the cost to build the SAHIMO is already at $170,000, and they're looking for sponsors to keep improving the car before the competition in October.

Indian Man with 5 Kidneys

Many people in need of a transplant struggle to receive just one organ.

But a photographer from Khaira Dona village, in the northwest state of Punjab, India, is now living with five kidneys.

kidney cut Indian Man Has 5 Kidneys picture

Since 2004, Jaswant has undergone three transplant surgeries to replace his failed kidneys. With each procedure, the 33 year-old gained a new kidney from a family member, while the non-functioning organs remained in his body.

During kidney transplants, the failed organ is often left in the body to reduce the risk of death and complications that can result from removing it. Yet only an exceptional handful of such transplant recipients can claim to have had the procedure multiple times, like Jaswant.

Determined to “make it this time,” Jaswant received his latest kidney from his 55 year-old mother more than a month ago.

Jaswant had his first transplant surgery at age 25. The organ, which was donated by his older sister, functioned for more than a year. “However, my body rejected the kidney once I stopped post-operation medication because of financial constraints,” he said.

Two years later, Jaswant received another kidney, this time from his younger sister. After 14 months, he was placed back on dialysis, after his body rejected the organ of yet another family member.

While discussing his latest transplant, Jaswant cited his family’s “determination to see me live,” adding, “this time my mother, 55, gave me her bean shaped organ.”

Jaswant’s family makes a modest living—his brother is a driver and his father sells milk. Doctors from India’s National Kidney Hospital were so impressed by the young photographer’s story and the determination of his family, that they performed Jaswant’s most recent transplant surgery for free.

Rajesh Agrawal, the transplant surgeon who conducted the procedure along with doctor’s Suresh Aggarawal and Sanjay Mittal; said Jaswant is not the first person in this part of India to undergo multiple kidney transplants.

“The case is second in the region, where a third kidney transplant surgery has been done successfully. The earlier three transplants in the country were conducted at Hyderabad, Lucknow and Delhi,” doctor Agrawal said.

Three-month-old given Dettol instead of polio drops

A three-month-old child was hospitalized here after the baby was given Dettol instead of polio drops at a health center in Goa, the state's leader of opposition said. Officials Saturday confirmed the incident but said the child's father, and not the hospital, had made the mistake.

The Bharatiya Janata Party's Manohar Parrikar said the incident occurred in the state Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane's constituency of Valpoi in north Goa.

'There has to be a fullscale probe into this incident. This only speaks of the pitiable levels of health care in the state,' Parrikar told reporters.

He said that the child was now admitted to the Goa Medical College hospital near here.

Speaking to IANS, director of the state health department Rajananda Dessai confirmed the incident, but said that the child's father Rama Chorlekar had administered Dettol to his child on his own.

'The incident happened on June 17 at the Valpoi public health centre (PHC). Our preliminary enquiry shows that the child was already given polio drops, but her father wanted some paracetamol syrup for the baby's cold. Since the nurse was overworked, the father accidentally picked the bottle of Dettol from the rack and administered some of the antiseptic liquid to the child,' Dessai said.

The child had to be hospitalised subsequently after it developed complications.

Dessai said that no action had been taken against staff at the PHC because the family did not want to pursue the matter.

'The nurse was anyway busy that day and the father had volunteered to help, which caused the mishap,' Dessai said.

Dessai dismissed the reports that polio drops were in short supply and said that the accident was purely a 'result of human error' of the child's father.

Man hit by 100mph train

A man had a miraculous escape after he was hit by a train traveling at 100mph.

Noah Hodgkiss dropped his mobile phone while crossing a bridge and was searching for it when the Cardiff to Birmingham train hit him.

Noah who is partially sighted and hard of hearing was flung 40 yards in the air but escaped with a smashed pelvis, two broken ribs plus a fractured arm and fingers.

He told The Sun: "I was in the middle of the two tracks. Before I knew what was going on, the train was on me.

"I tried to leap out of the way but it hit me from behind. I was still conscious and as I looked around I realised I was under the bridge. I never heard the train coming because I am deaf in my right ear and the hearing aid I have for my left ear had gone flat.

"I have cataracts in my eye as well, that's why I didn't see it."

Rescue services found Noah lying by the track near his home in the village of Tibberton, Worcs.

He is expected to make a full recovery after spending three days in the Worcester Royal Hospital.

He added: "I know I have been unbelievably lucky - and I will never go anywhere near railway lines again. I'm not a hero, I'm an idiot."
